"A star-shaped route from 2 to 6 days riding"

4 to 8 days / 3 to 7 nights – 4/6 hours x 2 to 6 days riding

The Discovery trail is a star-shaped route, starting and finishing at the same place every day, which means no hotel changes all week.

The level of riding is generally more permissive, and may not be as demanding a route as a long trail, but certainly not less beautiful or interesting.
The Discovery Costa Brava runs through the magnificent Empordá, with incredible variety and quantity of landscapes, meadows and forests of oak and beech trees that bring you so close to heaven it seems you can touch it!

It is really a special place for riders!

DAY 2 VALVERALLA LAKE After strong breakfast, we saddle up and prepare the trail with the help and suggestions of your guide. The destination today is the nice Valveralla Lake with his forest of beech trees, meadows and fields, where we can enjoy spectacular views over the Gerona region and the mountains of Gavarres.
After a delicious picnic, we turn back, in the direction of the Fluvià River. On the way we pass through the medieval villages of Sant Miquel de Fluviá, Sant Mori and Saus, where we can stroll through the village and see the castle from the outside. We continue, alternating small villages with vast meadows and dense forests. Then we will cross the quiet village of Vilaür, a charming place that preserves the medieval wall. We will cross the East gate to enter the Main Square (where the Duquesa de Alba has a pretty house). Once we arrive, we can relax in the gardens or enjoy the company of our horses who will have a deserved rest near the farmhouse. For dinner, an excellent home cooked meal awaits us.

After breakfast and preparing the horses, we will leave through tracks surrounded by Mediterranean forest. The mountain creeks offer amazing views of prairies and meadows. We will then reach Fluvià River, near the village of Báscara with its famous hippodrome, where we will test our gallop. The picnic will take place at Masía La Palma. On our way we will find country cottages and churches, all surrounded by olive groves and cereal fields. Then, we will turn back to the farmhouse through the villages of Parets de l’Empordá and Galliners. Today it’s a long day on the saddle.Today it’s a long day on the saddle.

After strong breakfast, we saddle up our horses and we will go through forest, meadows and fields, to Riera de Llampaies, our destination today and we will discover the magnificent Baix Empordá. We will have our daily picnic at Colomers, near the Ter River where we can have a nap under the beach trees. We follow our route crossing the quiet villages of Vilopriu and Saus to turn back at home. There we can offer a fresh shower to our horses and have a swim at the swimming pool before dinner.

Today we prepare to go with our horses to the beach, what we've been looking forward to will begin tomorrow morning, and we have a full day of riding to do on our way there. Tonight the horses will sleep in a cane field near the sea. We make a gentle descent on paths surrounded by meadows, past Saus up until Ventalló and Palau Borrell for a delicious picnic beside the private Garriga Castle, in Sant Feliu de laGarriga. In the afternoon we pass Viladamat and Albons, alternating trotting and some cantering. It seems that our horses smell the sea breeze. We pass Mas Vilanera, which has an old mil and is near the village of L'Escala, and reach Sant Martí d’Empuries, at the end of the beach of an old Greek pier, dating from the sixth century BC, where we will leave our horses in paddocks and then go back to the farmhouse by car..

We get up early for breakfast, and then move to where we left the horses yesterday afternoon. We mount and trot beside a stream for a few minutes until we reach the sea, at the beginning of the bay of Roses. We will continue to gallop along the beach, stopping occasionally to enter the water until almost wetting our feet. After a long eight kilometres of golden sands and sparkling sea, we turn to go back toward South direction through orchards and paddy fields. After riding through silent woods and streams we stop for a relaxing lunch next to an old “tintaría”. We return to the hills to reach our accommodation, enjoying our last route in the Empordà mountain range, at the heart of the Costa Brava..

We saddle up our horses and leave the farmhouse but today in the direction of the Fluvià River. On the way we pass through pine and oak forest near the villages of Saus and Sant Mori. Then we will arrive at sant Miquel de Fluviá and have our daily picnic in front of the river under the trees shades. In the afternoon, we will cross Arenys d’Empordá, where we can see the castle Palau de Santa Eulalia, and continue through the nice and characteristic villages of Vilajoan and Calabuig with his tower/church that dominates the entire valley.

Breakfast and departure…. we hope to see you again soon!!
(or why not continue riding up to the mountain?)
