JOSEP RAMON CASAS - Manager & Trails coordination

Born in Barcelona, Josep Ramon Casas was introduced to the equestrian world over twenty five years ago and more particularly to endurance riding. He presided the Sant Fruitós Equestrian Club, known for its annual endurance competitions, and then created l'Hípic Sant Fruitós de Bages in 1990, as a riding school and training center for competition horses and riders.

Along the same lines, he inaugurated a second centre, l'Hípic Llanars-Camprodon, in the Catalan Pyrenees in 2002, and complemented the facilities with a hotel and bar-restaurant suited for organizing riding camps and Equestrian routes and stays in a unique environment. Under the brand HÍPIC HOTEL, this center soon became a leader in the field of Catalan tourism and also a useful all-round service and location for other clubs and riders from around the country and internationally.

In 2009, Josep Ramon Casas decided after much thought to change the focus of his riding clubs to Equestrian Tourism. This brought him to join the Itinerània program, a network of hiking trails in the Ripollès, Garrotxa and Alt Empordà regions, as well as the 3mons route, which links three national parks (Montseny, St. Llorenç del Munt and Obac) with Montserrat. He started offering horse-drawn carriage rides, based on a Catalan-French project for the recovery of animal traction in tourism, the transhumance route, herding cattle on horseback between the Alt Empordà region and the Valley of Camprodon and came to lead the Valls de Moncau Equustur program. On a personal level, he rejoined the Catalan Equestrian Federation and is still a member of the Equestrian Tourism Commission.

In 2012, he was given the opportunity to continue the work of Mick Peters, recently deceased founder of Can Jou-Catalonia Trails that had been offering equestrian for over 15 years and talked abaout by many riders. Having already an equestrian center based in the Pyrenees, and with the possibility to improve the trails nearer the beaches, he leaves Can Jou base and imagine a new way for Catalonia Trails
Consequently, with this new reorganization based on his vast experience in the world of horses and horse riding, Josep Ramon Casas opened a third center in Empordà, the new Catalonia Trails logistical center, as Can Jou in the past, called Can Sort, completing the route stages and Hípic Hotel's riding school and activities in order to promote equestrian tourism in Catalonia with a quality label. The trails have been somewhat modified and renewed, whilst the equestrian holidayspirit of the Can Jou founder endures from the beautiful estate of Can Sort. Most of the horses and guides, as well as the support members, are the same that formed a team at Can Jou.
